How to Alter Behavior of Printers That Roam with Roaming Profiles – Micr

In environments where users are using Roaming Profiles, By default the default printer roam with the user profile wherever they go inside the enterprise. when utilizing location based printing for example in view environment for example, this feature shouldn’t be used for the fact that the user can be somewhere and the printer is somewhere else.

since the default printer is part of the user registry keys. this feature can be altered easily with some changes that Microsoft has mentioned in it KB article Numbered 304767. there are 2 methods that can be used to achieve this based on the use case and the administrator requirement. the link to the article is here.

Please be careful when changing registry values because this could make windows unusable.

VMware vCloud Networking and Security Evaluation Video.

I have started recently to have lots on interest about cloud network and security. this interest came out based on the market trends and the new technologies that have been recently announced by different vendors, these technologies or i would call disruption in the network industry is something that is absolutely caused  by cloud computing technology trends happening in the industry and creation of the new networking concepts in logical networks like VXLANs and SDDC services.

Looking for more information, VMware has recently created 3 different evaluation video of the vCloud Networking and security product which includes how you can create logical networks using VXLAN virtual Fabrics as well as software defined datacenter services starting from an HTTPS load Balancer.

So talking about the videos that i have seen around, below are the 3 Videos and some description of each.

The Above Video Discusses how to create the virtual fabric using VMware vCloud Networking and Security Solution.

The Above Video Discuss how to consume these logical networks in the virtual machines by deploying the software defined networking services interfaces using the edge gateways.

This last video is all about how we can deploy these specific services. in the above example, the video is discussing how to configure the firewall for applications communications and the load balancer for the web server.

Cisco Nexus 1000V is free. and it has VXLAN built-in

Few days ago, Cisco announced that it has a change of pricing for the nexus 1000V product line where it will start to provide 2 different editions of the Cisco 1000V distributed switch. The editions are called essential and advanced edition. the essential edition will be provided to the customers for free with a nominal support fee.

There are some advanced features and capabilities that are provided only in the advanced edition.

The one thing i see most promising about the essential editions is the embedding of VXLAN in the essential edition distributed switch.

Cisco has not forgotten it is existing 6,000 customers either, so they have created the following upgrade Path to their customer for the next 2.1 version.

the evolution of containers, from VMs to SDDC

I have recently read a blog post on VMware Website about the software defined datacenter. and it started talking about how virtualization has actually made this possible. this has started first with virtualization which allowed enterprise to create an encapsulated like a black box called a VM that contain the OS and the softwares required to run a specific applications to be consumed by the enterprise workforce.

The next evolution was the creation of the vApp which allowed a group of VMs containers to be contained into a single container with the ability to specify Policies and rules in lots of areas that includes but not limited to Security, Affinity and non-affinity rules and start priority.

Next comes  the evolution of software defined services, this includes storage, Networking and security which has created a new evolution of how data is stored as well as how Network and security is being redesigned and reconnected in the new virtualized data center. this has created the new data center that we today call the software-defined data center which provides all of the services required based on policies implemented and executed at the software level without the dependency on physical appliances.

Now, I will leave it to the figure that explains it all.

Dear Customer, Do you Have vSphere ENT+. this is a gift for you – Upgrade to the vCloud Suite.

As mush as it is exciting me today as a VMware Employee. i am seeing lots of interest from customers about the new promotion that VMware had put in place for a free upgrade to the vCloud Suite standard edition.

More info on the promotion is available in the link below.

Now is your chance to start seeing the cloud in your data center.

Happy Clouding.

1 Million IOPS Per Host. No I am wrong, it is Per VM Now.

This is just a great New Scalability option for VMware, other than business critical applications enablement in the virtualized platform. There are some other benefits to other solutions like high performance computing & Big Data.

The Below Video Proofs this scalability based on testing that was done by VMware using the following environment.

Hypervisor: vSphere 5.1
Server: HP DL380 Gen8
CPU: 2 x Intel Xeon E5-2690, HyperThreading disabled
Memory: 256GB
HBAs: 5 x QLA2532
Storage: 2 x Violin Memory 6616 Flash Memory Arrays
VM: Windows Server 2008 R2, 8 vCPUs and 48GB.
Iometer Config: 4K IO size w/ 16 workers

No More vRAM, This is a great

This is a great announcement from VMware, There is nothing much to say except that this proofs VMware commitment to customers. based on the survey sent out to the customers. VMware Listened and Executed Accordingly.

Now i am so excited as much as customers are to increase the use of vSphere and other VMware Cloud Components to enable Software Defined Data Center.

My concern is now, what will happen to the twitter page VMware_vRAM Page.  :)
